Not just an entrepreneur but a true visionary, Dan Duckhorn was the first Napa winemaker to see the potential for Merlot as not just something to blend with Cabernet but as the primary grape in a great Napa Valley wine. He founded his winery on that premise and the rest is history. No other Merlot from California has achieved the success, the accolades or the following that Duckhorn enjoys. The wines are always highly allocated and snapped up by legions of loving admirers. Duckhorn recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary bottling, so now they are into their next 40 years.

Inspired after a visit to Bordeaux, Dan Duckhorn produced the first vintage of Duckhorn Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot in 1978. Highlighting Estate vineyards and top sites, this renown Merlot reflects the diversity of the valley’s many appellations.

James Suckling scored this 97 points saying "A very polished merlot with velvety tannins that are medium in density and very fine and long. Medium to full body. Juicy fruit with berry and green-olive character and a creamy-textured finish. Plenty of energy in the tannins."
